The University of Sussex was the first of the new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in August 1961.
Sussex is a leading research university, as reflected in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. Over 90 per cent of Sussex research activity was rated as world leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised, confirming the University among the leading 30 research universities in the UK, on a simple average across all scores. 18 subjects rank in the top 20 for research in the UK, across the arts, sciences and social sciences, with American studies ranked number 1 in the UK, Politics number 2, and Art history number 3.
About Chancellor's International Scholarship (2015)
25 scholarships are available in the majority of Sussex Schools, and are awarded on the basis of academic performance and potential. The scholarships are offered for one year.

Award amount:50% off international student tuition fee
Eligibility
In order to be considered for a Chancellor's International Scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:
> Have applied for and accepted a place to start a Postgraduate taught degree at the University of Sussex (e.g., MA, MSc, LLM, MRes, Postgraduate Diploma, and Graduate Diploma) excluding the following degrees:
> Courses in the Institute of Development Studies, except the MA Gender and Development course
> MSc in Social Research Methods + DPhil combined (1+3 degrees)
> International foundation years, International Year One Diploma in Business and Management, and Pre-masters
> Pre-Masters Degrees and Diplomas taught at partner colleges which are validated by Sussex.
> Be assessed as liable to pay fees at the "overseas" (namely the non-EU) rate.
> Have sufficient funds to meet your tuition fees and living expenses, after taking account of the possible award of a Chancellor's International Scholarship.

On what basis will the scholarships be awarded?
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and potential. These factors will be assessed by a selection panel at Sussex using the information provided on the Scholarship Application Form. The selectors will pay special attention to information provided in personal statement section of the form. The scholarships are not awarded on the basis of financial need.
